Obituary

Isaac T. Dize, Jr., 73, of Ewell, Smith Island, died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Born February 28, 1940 and raised on Smith Island, he was a son of the late Isaac T. and Essie Evans Dize.

He was the Smith Island Mail Boat Captain for many years, worked at the Smith Island Oil Company for more than 20 years, was the Smith Island Deputy Sheriff for more than 10 years, and most recently was the Smith Island School Bus Driver.
He was a member of the Ewell United Methodist Church, and was a 50+ year member and the oldest active member of the Ewell Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Chesapeake Masonic Lodge #147 AF&AM.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Bradshaw Dize of Ewell; his daughter, Tonya Dize (Ronnie) of Onley, VA; his son, Isaac Dize, III (Darlene) of Crisfield; three brothers, Bunk Evans (Maxine) of Ewell, Edward Dize (Connie) of Rhodes Point, and Willis Dize (Debbie) of Chincoteague; two sisters, Elsie Tyler (Robert) of Ewell and Betty Richardson (Kevin) of Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; and his grand animals, "Big Jack", "Rollo", and "Tiger".

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Thomas; and two step-sisters, Mary Haxter and Audry Stephens.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. Rick Edmund will be held Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 2 PM at Ewell United Methodist Church where friends may call Wednesday evening from 7-9. Interment will follow in the Ewell Church Cemetery.

A special boat for funeral passengers, the Chelsea Lane, will depart Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield Thursday at 12 Noon and return following the funeral services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be sent to Ewell Volunteer Fire Department or Ewell United Methodist Church; both Ewell, MD 21824.
