The son of the late Ira Thompson and Nellie Adele Parks Todd, he was born November 19, 1917, the last baby boy born on Holland's Island. Shortly after, when Holland's Island was evacuated due to erosion, his family moved to Crisfield where he was raised. His wife, Virginia Tawes Todd, preceded him in death July 10, 2005.

A graduate of Salisbury University and the University of Maryland College Park, he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in accounting and worked for the late Louis Goldstein in the Maryland Comptroller's office until he was drafted into the Army during World War II. Following his discharge from the Army in 1945, "I.T." went home to Crisfield and became owner and operator of Metompkin Bay Oyster Company working faithfully until his semi-retirement in 2010.

"I.T." was a devoted member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Crisfield, where he served in many capacities. He was most proud of his presidency on the Administrative Board which was responsible for the fundraising and construction of the church's Fellowship Hall. His other memberships included the former Crisfield Rotary Club, Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion, Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044, Chesapeake Masonic Lodge #147 AF&AM, McCready Hospital Board of Directors, former Bank of Crisfield and former Peninsula Bank Board of Directors, and the Crisfield Country Club. He enjoyed playing soccer and baseball in college, and also enjoyed tennis, golfing, fishing, and being on his boat.

He is survived by three children, Ann T. Whitcomb and husband Robert of Annapolis, Casey I. Todd and wife Kim of Crisfield, and Michael W. Todd and wife Paula of Crisfield; seven grandchildren, Abigail "Abby" Todd, Joshua "Josh" Todd and wife Kristina, Storm Todd, Alexandra "Allie" Todd, Jessie Todd, Henry "Hank" Todd, and Carly Todd; his first cousin, Carol Creasy; his brother-in-law, Arthur Wellington "Billy Jim" Tawes, Jr.; and his nieces and nephews, Arthur Harold "Artie" Tawes, Jane Tawes King, Susan Corbin, Todd Chelton Givens, and Christopher Chesley.

Along with his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Rosina Chesley, Ruth Todd Quinn, and Nellie Mae "Dottie" Givens.
