Obituary

Homer D. Tyler, 90, of Rhodes Point and formerly of Crisfield and Ewell, died Monday, May 23, 2016 at Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Born on Ewell May 15, 1926, he was the youngest of 11 children born to Schultz and Manie Evans Tyler. His wife, Helen Jean Evans Tyler preceded him in death.

A waterman, when he was younger he worked on the dredge boat Seagull with his two older brothers Otis and William. Later he owned and worked on the Shirley Dawn and finally the Queen Mary with his brothers. He was also inducted into the Watermen's Hall of Fame.

Homer loved music. His brother William gave him a guitar and taught him how to play when he was younger. He joined the Smith Island Men's Quartet and also sang in the choirs of Ewell Church, Calvary Church on Rhodes Point, and Immanuel Church in Crisfield. He also enjoyed baseball and played shortstop for the Island Baseball team.

He is survived by three children, Jim Tyler and wife Renee of Tangier, Lee Tyler and wife Missy of Rhodes Point, and Dawn Marsh of Salisbury; a daughter-in-law, Becky Tyler of Crisfield; six grandchildren, Steven Tyler, James Tyler and wife Theresa, Aubrey Tyler and wife Kimberly, Jamie Tyler and wife Liz, Kyle Tyler, and Scottie Marsh and wife Samantha; six great-grandchildren, Wesley Dean Tyler, Dusty Tyler, Leland Tyler, Carter Marsh, Cohen Marsh and Callie Marsh; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Frankie Tyler and Homer Tyler, Jr.; and his brothers and sisters, Otis Tyler, William Tyler, Cooper Tyler, Homer Tyler, Anna Marie Dennis, Gaynelle Guy, Blanche Brimer, Winnie Taylor, Geraldine Evans, and Mavis Betts.

Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Rick Edmund will be Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 2 PM at Ewell U. M. Church. Viewings will be Wednesday

morning from 10-11 at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield and at the church Wednesday evening from 7-9. Interment will be in Ewell Church Cemetery.
