On Friday, January 16, 2009, HILDA RAE SEYDA, 89, of Marion Station, climbed her highest hill to be welcomed into the arms of her precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Born on October 27, 1919 in Crisfield, Maryland, she was a daughter of the late Earley and Elizabeth Thomas Lane. Her ancestry roots went back to the late Joshua Thomas of Tangier Island, her fifth great-grandfather.
Her most important roots were her roots in Jesus Christ. At the age of 17 she married Robert R. Seyda, Sr. At that time he was the Pastor of the Crisfield Church of God of which she was a charter member. Her husband was a widower with five children who became her children. Her ministry with him took her to many states and to Germany as a missionary. He died in 1959, and as a widow at the age of 39, Hilda worked hard to provide for her family as a seamstress with local factories and at Rubberset Corporation in Crisfield when they opened in the early 1960's. She later retired as an inspector. She also worked actively in the local church and throughout the shore with an anointed ministry of music. She was especially known for her songs "The Highest Hill" and "The Brush". She was the last surviving charter member of the Crisfield Church of God.
Surviving are her children, Betty Landon of Marion Station, Esther Hennesse and husband Chuck of Morgantown, NC, David Seyda and wife Eula of Tierra Verde, FL, Rachael Landon and husband Roland of Baltimore, Robert Seyda and wife Aurora of New Orleans, LA, Joan Cloud and husband Doug of Marion Station, and Deborah Wessels of North East, MD; daughters-in-law, Patsy Seyda of Crisfield and Lillian Seyda of Baltimore; her sister, Eldora Nelson of Marion Station; a special nephew, Vernon Platt of PA; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her oldest son, Richard Seyda; her youngest son, Daniel Seyda; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Ralph Nelson, Emily and Roy Platt, Adelle Lane and Earl Nelson; and a son-in-law, Jack Landon.
