Hilda E. Barnes McCready, 88, of Crisfield, died on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at her home.
Born in Hopewell July 7, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Charles Lawson Barnes, Sr. and Hilda Celeste Barnes. A graduate of Marion High School and Salisbury State Teachers College, she was a teacher in the Somerset County School System for 31 years.
She was a faithful and devoted member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Marion Station where she was past member of Vestry of St. Paul's, which she enjoyed. Other memberships included are Worcester Chapter #102, O.E.S. in Snow Hill, Wicomico Chapter #91 O.E.S. in Salisbury; lifetime member of Ladies Auxilliary of Stanley Cochrane American Post # 16; past member of the Somerset County Library Board and the Lillian S. Corbin Memorial Library Board; and the former Chesapeake Chapter # 28 Order of the Eastern Star in Crisfield where she served as treasurer.
Hilda's loves of her life were her granddaughter, Amanda, gardening and her "Ti Tat".
Surviving are two daughters; Pamela Ann McCready, Crisfield, and Barbara S. Ward & husband Edison of Hertford, N.C.; a sister, Kathryn Barnes Purnell and husband William E. of Salisbury; a granddaughter, Amanda Beth Stevens of Greenville, N.C.; a special sister-in-law, Elodie McCready of Ft. Pearce, FL; nieces, Wilhelmina Spear Collins of Cambridge, MD, Linda McCready Payne of Crisfield, and Dianne Weise and husband Dennis of Severna Park, MD; nephews, John Brittingham and wife Michelle, Jackie McCready and wife Nancy, Eddie McCready and wife, Rose, and Tommy McCready, all of Crisfield; also surviving are several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and several cousins; and her special cat, Ti Tat.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Olin McCready, a sister, Mary Barnes Spear; a brother, Charles Lawson Barnes, Jr.; and a granddaughter, Melanie Barnes Stevens.
A memorial service and Eastern Star Service will be held Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where the family will receive friends following the service. Father Mike Lokey will officiate. Interment will be private in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
