Mrs. Henrietta C. Wheatley, 91, wife of the late Freddie Wheatley, and a lifelong resident of Tangier Island, VA, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at her son's home.
Born December 6, 1924 on Tangier Island, she was the daughter of the late John Wess and Dora Parks Charnock.
She is survived by her two children, Sandra King and husband Bryan and Freddie Wheatley, Jr. and wife Cindy, all of Tangier; five grandchildren, Bryan King, Jr. of Cashville, Tracy Pruitt of Tangier, Faughn King Blair of Salisbury, Heather Dise of Tangier and Jenny Dise of Tangier; six great-grandchildren, Victoria Pruitt, Alyssa Dise, Cassie Dise and Daniel Dise, all of Tangier, and Christian Blair and Grayson Blair of Salisbury; three sisters-in-law, Teany Charnock, Ginny Charnock Briggs, and Carolyn Charnock; her cousin and best friend, Jean Autry; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Henrietta was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Crockett and Ginny Charnock; and five brothers, Wesley Charnock (infant), Vaughn Charnock, Grover Charnock, "John Ed" Charnock, and Charles "Puge" Charnock.
Funeral services will be conducted at Swain Memorial United Methodist Church on Tangier on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 2 PM with the Rev. John Flood officiating. A viewing will be Saturday evening from 7-8:30 a the church. Interment will be in the Charnock Cemetery.
