HELEN FAYE PIANKA, 71, of Princess Anne, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Anchorage Nursing and Rehab Center in Salisbury.
Born in Wenona on December 15, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Roger and Rosalie Adams Hoffman. Her husband, Roland Pianka preceded her in death September 22, 1983.
She was a health service supervisor at Salisbury University working almost 20 years before her retirement. She was very devoted to her work and was a perfectionist. She established a great rapport over the years with the students, faculty, and administration including the President's office.
A member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Chance, she was a very charitable person who donated to numerous organizations. She also sponsored several Indian children and helped put them through school. She devoted her time to her work, and caring for her great-grandchild.
She is survived by four children, Bruce Pianka and his wife Kandie of Princess Anne, Valerie Hyson of Salisbury, Lisa Moeller and her fiancé Robert Smith of Lake Wylie, SC, and Candace Pianka-Horsey of Salisbury; 11 grandchildren, Hillary Tapman, Brandi Pianka, Krista Pianka, Crystal Ratcliff, Adam Pianka, Harley Blizzard, Nicholas Moeller, Madison Smith, Taylor Pianka, Mariah Hall and Cody Horsey; a sister, Beverly Walters of Deal Island; two brothers, Allen Hoffman of Wenona and Dale Hoffman of Princess Anne; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 1 PM at First Baptist Church in Princess Anne where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Jamie DeVaughn will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery in Wenona.
