GLADYS MAE LAIRD, 81, of Crisfield, died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Crisfield March 23, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Elwood and Ruby Adams Matthews. Her husband, William C. "Billy" Laird, died April 7, 1995.
A Crisfield High School graduate of the class of 1947, she was a professional hand brush maker at Rubberset Corp. in Crisfield working more than 20 years before her retirement.
She loved to work in her garden, go shopping with her daughter, and had a great love for her cats and dogs. She also attended the Crisfield First Baptist Church.
A very loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she is survived by her daughter, Diana Johnson and her husband Calvin "C.B." Johnson, Jr. of Marion; one granddaughter, Angela Jones of Marion; two great-grandchildren, Rebeca Jones and Johnathan Wright of Marion; one sister, Emily Sterling and her husband John Henry of Crisfield; one brother, Charles Matthews and his special friend Flo Vickers of Eden; two brothers-in-law, Clayton "Ricky" Laird and his wife Anna of Crisfield and Jimmy Lee Laird and his wife Juanita of Florida; her faithful friends, Vickie and Russell Hill of Salisbury; her special neighbors, Jamie and Rob; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by two stillborn children.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 7, 2010 at 11 AM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. Pastor Jack "Tad" Maroon will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
