Obituary

Gerald L. "Jerry" Miley, 88, of Crisfield and formerly of Ephrata, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Born in Ephrata on January 13, 1930, he was a son of the late Harry and Mildred Kilhefner Miley.

Jerry was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and had a strong work ethic from a very young age.  In his younger years he worked at his parents business, Miley Dairy, which was later sold to Penn Supreme and was a talented cabinet maker and woodworker, making many cedar chests and other pieces of furniture for people.  Later, he managed the Crisfield Shipyard and also owned a boatyard on Tangier Island, and worked at McCready Hospital in maintenance, which eventually included the security department.  Finally, he was owner and operator of Miley's Auto Body until his retirement.

He loved NASCAR and restoring his antique Harley Davidson motorcycle and enjoyed taking it to shows.  His favorite part was sharing stories with all of the people he would meet.

He was a 60-year member of Ephrata Masonic Lodge #665, and was a long-time member of the former Crisfield Rotary Club.  He was also on the steering committee of the Lower Somerset County Ambulance and Rescue Squad in Crisfield.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Phyllis Evans Miley of Crisfield; a son, Jeff Miley and wife Belinda of Hebron; a daughter, Linda Miley of Portland, Oregon; a life-long family friend, Betty Mull of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Rebecca Hagmüller and husband Alex of West Linn, Oregon, Ezekiel Brown of Cordova, Alaska, Reuben Brown of Vail, Colorado, and Gabrielle Brown of Prince William Sound, Alaska; and several nieces, and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Tracy Lynn Miley in 1961; his step-son, Enos Evans in 1991; and his only brother, Galen W. Miley in 2016.

A graveside memorial service and urn interment will be Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 2 PM at Sunnyridge Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are requested to be sent to Alice B. Tawes Nursing Home Activities Fund, 201 Hall Highway; or Lower Somerset Ambulance and Rescue Squad, LSCARS, P.O. Box 406; both Crisfield, MD 21817.
