George William Swift, 80, of Crisfield, died Monday, May 14, 2012 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.

Born in Crisfield on February 25, 1932, he was a son of the late Robert and Vernetta Cox Swift.

He retired from Somerset County Roads after 33 years. He also served two years in the Army National Guard Company L, 115th Infantry, of Crisfield.

He enjoyed mornings at Gordon's and his vegetable garden.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Jessie Cullen Swift of Crisfield; two children, Jerry L. Swift and Terry L. Troxell and her husband Robert, Sr., all of Crisfield; a brother, Donald Swift of Crisfield; a sister, Frances Johnson and her husband Carl of Crisfield; two grandchildren, Lisa Troxell Tull and her husband Jody of Marion and Robert Troxell, Jr. and his wife Amy of Pocomoke; five great-grandchildren, Courtney, Zachary, Megan, Alexis and Alana; one great-great-grandson, Willis; six sisters-in-law, Peggy Frock, Sarah Mears, Ada Killmon, Edna Lawson, Ola Lilliston, and Shirley Sterling; and two brothers-in-law, Elmer Nelson Cullen and Paul "Butch" Cullen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Robert Daniels will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
