Obituary
Dr. George E. Rimby, 90, of Crisfield and formerly of Royersford, PA, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Collegeville, PA on February 19, 1923, he was a son of the late George Harple and Lillian Townsend Rimby. He had been making his home in Crisfield since 1984.
A retired optometrist, he was a graduate of Collegeville-Trappe High School class of 1941 and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He practiced in Royersford for 40 years and in Crisfield for five years.
He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. His memberships included the Stanley Cochrane American Legion Post #16 in Crisfield, the Chesapeake Masonic Lodge #147 AF&AM in Crisfield, Royersford Lions Club, Pennsylvania Optometric Association, and the American Academy of Optometry. An accomplished singer, for more than 25 years Dr. Rimby sang in many churches, weddings, and was a member of the Singing City Choir in Philadelphia, the DE Festival Chorus,the Easton Choral Society, and the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia.
Dr. Rimby was also a former mayor of Royersford, PA and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Nancy Larson Rimby of Crisfield; a daughter, Denise Rowan of Gouldsboro, PA; a brother, William Shuler Rimby of St. Petersburg, FL; a nephew, Billy Rimby of Marietta, Georgia; nieces, Susan Henrikson, Jody Roshong, and Cathy Metz; a granddaughter, Gabrielle Rowan; his mother-in-law, Aileen Larson of Crisfield; two sisters-in-law, Jackie Larson of Crisfield and Betsy Nicholls of PA; and a brother-in-law, Jeffrey Larson of PA.
A memorial service officiated by Rev. Terry Riggin will be held Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. The family will receive friends following the service. Urn interment will be at a later date in Augustus Lutheran Church Cemetery in Trappe, PA.
