George Alton "Ackie" Nelson, Sr., 85, of Crisfield, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024 peacefully at home with his family and Dozer at his side.

Born in Crisfield on February 23, 1939, he was a son of the late Della Ward.

He was a retired maintenance employee of the former Mrs. Paul's Kitchens in Crisfield working almost 30 years until their closing.  Following his retirement he was a self-employed painter.  In his spare time he loved carving duck decoys and making wooden model boats before he lost his sight.  He was a member of Somerset Free Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rose Ann Tyler Nelson; three sons, George A. Nelson, Jr., Greg Nelson and wife Juanita, and Gary Nelson and wife Sheri; three grandchildren, Clinton "C.J." Nelson, Casey Nelson Schmid, and Blake Nelson; and numerous special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Donald Nelson, Ted Nelson, Mina Rae "Wiggie" Willing, Conchita "Chita" Justice, and Christina "Tiny" Ward.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 1 PM at Sunnyridge Memorial Park.  Pastor Jim Evans will officiate.
