George Maddox "Hambone" Thomas, Jr., 79, of Tangier, VA passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.

Born in Virginia on January 24, 1938, he was a son of the late George Maddox Thomas and Evelyn Autry Thomas.

A US Army Veteran, he was a Waterman and had a great love for nature.  He genuinely loved his life and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his three sisters, Reba Canby and husband John of West Virginia, Mina Altizer of Moyock, NC, and Ruby Dise of Tangier, VA; sisters-in-law, Kay Thomas of Tangier, VA and Jeannie Thomas of Crisfield, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bradley Allen Thomas and Charles Calvin Thomas; and two brothers-in-law, Fuller Dise and Tim Altizer.

Memorial Services at Swain Memorial United Methodist Church on Tangier will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 2 PM.  Rev. John Flood and Dr. Inez Pruitt will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home, 306 W. Main St., Crisfield, MD 21817 to help with funeral expenses.
