Fred Thomas Monk, 84, of Crisfield, died Monday, May 11, 2015 at McCready Memorial Hospital.
Born in Sacramento, California on May 27, 1930, he was a son of the late Fred Miller Monk and Rose Anne Johns Monk.
He was the Captain of the J. Millard Tawes for 23 years before his retirement in 1995, and prior served in the US Coast Guard 21 years before his retirement in 1969.
He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Coast Guard CPO Club, and served on the Board of Directors of Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Earlene Faye King Monk; a son, Darrell K. Monk and wife Patti of Princess Anne; two grandchildren, Jennifer F. Monk Gleason and husband Drew and Jordan D. Monk, all of Princess Anne; two great-grandchildren, Calli W. and Caden R. Gleason; and a nephew, Tommy Monk of Dixon, CA.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Eric D. Monk in 1988; and a brother, Melvin J. Monk in 2006.
Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Terry Riggin will be held Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where a viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 7-9. Interment with military honors will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
