EVELYN FRANCES LANDON, 96, of Crisfield, died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield where she had been a resident for the past few months.
Born in Crisfield on November 13, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Oscar Francis and Vida Jane Tyler Howard. Her husband, Charles Linwood "Suttag" Landon, Sr., died June 15, 1975.
She was a homemaker, and worked in a former local sewing factory before she married. She was a member of the Crisfield Church of God where she was active in the Ladies Ministry known in her day as the "Willing Workers". She also was a great cook and enjoyed crocheting and tapping.
She is survived by four children and their spouses, Evelyn Rae and Lawrence Edward Lewis of Milford, Delaware, Charles L. "Sonny", Jr. and Jo Lynn Landon of Crisfield, Mary Jean "Jeannie" and Paul T. Ward, Jr. of Crisfield, and Charles R. "Rick" and Rhonda A. Powell of Crisfield; nine grandchildren, Larry, Kevin and David Lewis, all of Milford, John L. "Woody" Lewis of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Joelle Crockett of Crisfield, Charles L. "Tag" Landon, III of Pasadena, Maryland, P. Scott Ward of Crisfield, Amy Lynch of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Christjon Powell of Crisfield; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister, Theo Howard and Lurie Jane Powell; and a grandson, Matthew Jason Ward who died in 1995.
Graveside funeral services and interment will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 11 AM at Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield. The Rev. Philip Morris and Pastor Alton Hinson will officiate. There will be no public viewing.
