Obituary

ETHELYN A. EVANS, 89, of Crisfield, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 11, 2010 from Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past two years.

Born on Rhodes Point, Smith Island on October 4, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Rachel Evans. Her husband, E. Hudson Evans, preceded her in death September 14, 1973. She had been a resident of Crisfield since he passed away.

She loved being busy. On Smith Island she worked at her brothers picking house. She could sure pick a pound of crab meat with no shell! When she moved to Crisfield, she was always helping someone whether taking care of the sick or elderly, housecleaning, or cooking. She was a very good cook, and loved cooking for family gatherings. She also enjoyed walking. She walked to her daughters house almost daily, and when she went to the nursing home she enjoyed walking up and down the halls until she was too weak.

She loved the Lord. She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Crisfield where she was active in Circle #1. On Smith Island, she was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church on Rhodes Point. She also enjoyed attending the Ladies Prayer Breakfast's.

She is survived by three children, Ray Evans and his wife Carole, and Judy Thomas, all of Crisfield, and Ronald Evans and his wife Sandy of Greenbackville; six grandchildren, Robin Pruitt and her husband Freddy of Crisfield, Shelley Hanna and her husband Kenny and Tracy Evans, all of Beaufort, SC, Krista Laird and her husband Scotty of Marion, and Bobby Thomas, Jr. and Brian Thomas, both of Crisfield; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin, Omar and Wayne Evans; and her son-in-law, Bobby Thomas.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev.'s Terry Riggin, Kim Gilson and Nolan Ford will officiate. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be sent to Evangelical Wesleyan Church, c/o Rev. Terry Riggin, 1121B S. Division Street, Salisbury, MD 21804 or Immanuel U. M. Church Memorial Fund, c/o Bob Bradshaw, 306 W. Main Street, Crisfield, MD 21817.

The family would like to thank Tawes Nursing Home for being so good to her. She was very satisfied there, and we love you all very much. Thank you to Pastor Terry and Barbara Riggin for bringing her beautiful flower arrangements for every occasion. They brightened her room. Also, thanks to Rev. Bob Daniels for praying with her every week.
