CRISFIELD

EMORY NELSON, JR., 77, of Crisfield, died Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.

Born in Crisfield on March 23, 1929, he was a son of the late Emory C. and Marian Tyler Nelson.

He was a retired waterman and a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren how to hunt and fish. He was a very devoted father to his children and to his grandchildren as well.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ethel M. Riggin Nelson of Crisfield; his daughter, Marian C. "Crissy" Sneade of Crisfield; his son, William L. "Dumplin" Nelson and his companion Ramona Betts and their children, Hammond, Charles and Elmyra Betts, all of Crisfield; three grandchildren, David M. "Matt" Sneade and his wife April D. Sneade, Mark N. Sneade and Kristen M. Sneade, all of Crisfield; two great-grandsons, Mark J. Holthaus and David M. Sneade, Jr.; one sister, Jon Rae Nelson of Crisfield; his sister-in-law, Dorothy M. "Tinker" Marshall of Crisfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Ray Nelson; and four sisters, Violet Bonneville, Sarah Atkins, Catherine Betts, and Margaret Jean Callaway.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 2 PM at Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev.'s Steve Willing and Tommy Maddox will officiate. Interment will follow in Asbury Cemetery in Crisfield.
