Obituary

Emma “Madeline” Riggin Daugherty, 94, of Crisfield, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026, one day shy of her 95th birthday, at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.

Born in Crisfield on August 11, 1931, she was the only child of the late Henry H. and Elnora Keyser Riggin. Her beloved husband of 40 years, Oscar Ewell Daugherty, Jr. preceded her in death in 1998.

Madeline was a graduate of Crisfield High School, Class of 1948. In her earlier years, she worked as a secretary at the former Lionel Bennett Attorney’s Office in Crisfield. She later served as secretary for First Baptist Church and Faith Fellowship Church in Crisfield.

Madeline was a true prayer warrior who loved reading her Bible and served the Lord in all that she did. She attended and volunteered for many years at Liberty Rock, First Baptist Church, and Faith Fellowship Church. She was a Sunday school teacher for 60 years and also assisted with Bible studies at the nursing home.

She enjoyed crafting and especially adored her grandson, Brent.

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Lynn Collins and her husband, Franklin L. Collins, Jr., of Crisfield; her grandson, Brent Liam Collins and his wife, Audrey Collins, of Colorado; her great-granddaughter, Arabella Maeve Collins, of Colorado; her lifelong special friend, Stella Sterling, of Crisfield, who faithfully remained by her side; and special friends she was blessed with later in life, Donna Sterling, Ethel Abbott, and her neighbor, Michelle Gandolfi, all of Crisfield.

Funeral services are pending at this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home Activities Fund, 201 Hall Highway, Crisfield, MD 21817.
