Elmer Nelson "Tug" Cullen, Sr., 80, of Crisfield, died Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Alice B. Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.
Born in Crisfield on August 11, 1931, he was a son of the late Wade Hampton Cullen, Sr. and Edna Nelson Cullen.
He was retired from the Maryland State Roads Department after 25 years.
A US Army veteran of the Korean War, he was life member of the Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion in Crisfield. He enjoyed gardening and "chicken necking".
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Beulah P. Cullen of Crisfield; eight children, Leon Cullen and wife Jamie of Marion, Jimmy Lee Cullen of Crisfield, Johnny Cullen of South Carolina, Timmy Cullen and wife LouAnn of North Carolina, Elmer N. "Skippy" Cullen, Jr. of North Carolina, Dixie Lee Pruitt and husband Billy of Eden, Margaret Williamson and husband Dennis of Crisfield, and Linda Sterling and husband Linwood of Crisfield; his loving sisters and brothers, Peggy Frock of Crisfield, Edna Lawson of Virginia Beach, Sarah Mears of Bloxom, Ola Cullen of Fruitland, Ada Tilghman of Bloxom, Jessie Swift of Crisfield, Shirley Sterling of Crisfield, and Paul Cullen of Crisfield; 15 loving grandchildren; 13 loving great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Cullen and Wade Hampton Cullen, Jr; and a sister, Mary Lou Hill.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. Rev. Robert Daniels will officiate. Interment will follow in the American Legion Cemetery.
