Obituary

Elma E. Sterling, 102, of Crisfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.

Born in Crisfield September 26, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Harold James and Gertrude Handy Cox.  Her husband, Linwood Sterling, preceded her in death on January 20, 1991.

A graduate of Crisfield High School class of 1933, she was a retired receptionist working many years at Carvel Hall Cutlery.

She was a devoted member of Mariners and Asbury United Methodist Churches where she sang in the choir, was active in WSCS and UMW, and faithfully tithed.  She was also a member of the former Chesapeake Chapter #28 Order of Eastern Star.

Elma's life was devoted to her faith and to her husband.  They enjoyed their home, and keeping their property well kept.  Elma was also a gifted seamstress, making her own wardrobe with complete outfits.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynne McIntyre of Chestertown; her granddaughter, Deirdre McIntyre and her spouse, Leonie Quinn of Tacoma Park; her great-grandchildren, Mabel and Spyro; and her life-long close friend, Argene Ward of Crisfield; and a special friend and caregiver, Lorraine Landon of Crisfield.  She is also survived by the many loving staff members of Tawes Nursing Home whom she considered to be family.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Mary Cox; and her son-in-law, Howard Edmund McIntyre.

A funeral service officiated by the Rev. Sumner Jones will be Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 11 AM at Asbury U. M. Church where a visitation will be from 10:30-11.  Interment will follow in Asbury Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the memorial funds of either Mariners U. M. Church, c/o Grace Lankford, 27785 Farm Market Road, Marion, MD 21838 or Asbury U. M. Church, c/o Jane Riggin, 26128 Byrd Road, Crisfield, MD 21817.
