Ellen Rebecca Tawes, 98, of Crisfield, died Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at McCready Memorial Hospital.

Born in Princess Anne January 21, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Columbus "Lum" and Ella Rebecca Pusey Adams. Her husband, Howard J. "Had" Tawes, died March 14, 1989.

A graduate of Washington High School class of 1937, she was the cafeteria manager of the former Crisfield Elementary School #3 for 21 years until her retirement in 1979.

She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church where she taught the Jr. Department, was Division Superintendant of the Youth Department, MYF Counselor, active in Circle #1, UMW, and Bessie Wharton's Sunday School Class.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and caregiver. She was a beautiful person who remained positive and kind and always put others before herself. She loved flowers and birds and she loved to cook.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Richard Adams, David Adams, Beverly Compton, Becky Brittingham, Judy Ann Vaughn, Raymond Adams, Jackie Townsend, Mary Lynn Walters, Patsy Somers, Margie Morgan, Lawrence Somers, and Bruce Somers; and several other great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, James H. "Jimmy" Tawes January 29, 1980. She was the last surviving of eight brothers and sisters, Ruth Applegarth, Naomi Campenelino, Levin Adams, Amy Somers, Catherine Webster, Willard Adams and Judy Adams.

Funeral services officiated by Pastor Bill S. Wilson will be Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home where a viewing will be one hour prior. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
