Obituary

Elizabeth M. "Betty" Roebuck, 97, of Crisfield, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Alice B. Tawes Nursing Home after a one month long illness.

Born in Drexel Hill, PA on August 31, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Robert W. McGowan, Sr. and Velma K. McGowan.

She graduated from West Chester High School in West Chester, PA in 1943 and from Goldey Beacom Secretarial School in Wilmington, DE.  During World War II, she aided the war effort by helping her father tend his Victory Garden.

In 1948, she married Victor C. Brice of West Chester.  She is survived by their three sons, Thomas C. Brice of Crisfield, Nelson D. Brice and his wife Debbie of Crisfield, and John J. Brice and his wife Janice of Woodbine, MD; two grandchildren, Corlie L. Budd and her husband Mickey of Delmar, and Andrew C. Brice and his wife Audrey of Salisbury; and two great-granddaughters, Kinsey G. Budd and Rylee J. Budd.

From 1981 until his death in 2015, she was married to Benjamin Roebuck of Crisfield.  She is survived by one step-daughter, Leslie Berryhill and her husband James of Pocomoke; four step-grandchildren, Robert Roebuck and his wife April of Captain's Cove, VA, Staci Brittingham and her husband Keith of Crisfield, Jenny White and her partner Luis of Salisbury, and Kenny White and his wife Kaitlyn of Salisbury; and step-great-granddaughters, Lauren Roebuck, Rachel Guy, Rebecka Brittingham, and Danielle Brittingham. She was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Robin L. White in 2019; a step-great-granddaughter, Lindsey Rae Brittingham in 2015; two brothers, Robert W. McGowan, Jr. and John L. McGowan; and a sister, Margaret V. Shoffner.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families and one cousin, Nelson Schaeffer and his wife Kathy of Allentown, PA.

She worked as both a secretary and sales associate for Wilson Realty in Crisfield for many years.

She was a faithful member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Crisfield for more than 50 years, and was very active in UMW activities.

She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.  In her earlier years, she played pinochle in several groups, and in her later years she played in three bridge clubs in Crisfield.  She enjoyed the challenge of bridge and loved the time spent with her playing partners.

She lived her life with a quiet dignity that was appreciated by all who knew her.

A memorial service officiated by Rev. Jim Riley will be Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Immanuel U. M. Church at 11 AM where the family will receive friends one hour prior.  Urn interment will be at a later date in Philadelphia Memorial Park in Frazer, PA.
