MARION STATION

Eleanor Watts, age 97, passed peacefully the evening of December 23 at the Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield, MD . She was born on 12/02/1909 to the late Paul L and Jesse Gunby on the family farm near Marion Station. She was the last Gunby to own the farm which dates back to the late 1600's as chronicled in Woodrow Wilson's 1976 book, "34 families of Somerset County Maryland".

She was an alumnus of Western Maryland College and was May Queen of her 1930 graduating class. She was first married to Mr John Day who was tragically killed in an auto accident in Baltimore in 1936.
She married Leslie Watts, of Bowie MD in 1940 who passed away in 1992. When her mother passed in 1953 she and Les moved to the farm where she lived until 2000 when health reasons caused her to move to an assisted living facility.

She is survived by her sister, Laura Gunby of Baltimore, MD, nephews Paul B Gunby Jr. of Trappe, MD and Jack Hueper of Baltimore and nieces Joan Norwood of Ft Myers, Fl, Roselee Gonzales of Baltimore MD and Karen Barnes of Tennessee.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 2 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Marion Station. Father Mike Lokey will officiate.

Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.
