Obituary

Edward Asbury Evans, Sr., 79, of Ewell, Smith Island, died Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.

Born September 1, 1938, he was a son of the late Elmer Francis and Anna Rose Jones Evans.

He was a faithful member of Ewell United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School, was Lay Leader, Treasurer and served on various boards.  He was also a 60-year life member of Ewell Volunteer Fire Department, past president of the Tangier Sound Waterman's Association, past president of Smith Island Lions Club, past president of Ewell Waterworks, member of Masonic Lodge #147 AF & AM, Eastern Shore Shrine, and was past Boy Scout Master. A life-long waterman since the age of 12, he was inducted into the Waterman's Hall of Fame in 2008.   In addition, he was an avid Baltimore Ravens and Orioles fan.

A wonderful Dad, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend.  His favorite saying was "Faith, Family, Friends".

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, June Clayton Evans of Ewell; five children, Eddie Evans and wife Lisa of Ewell, Glenn Evans and wife Vickie of Crisfield, Susan Evans and fiance Otis Tyler of Ewell, Leigh Ann von Hoelle and husband Andy of Bear, DE, and Janet Tyler and husband Dale of Ewell; a brother, Junior Evans and wife Mary Ruth of Ewell; two sisters, Mary Ada Marshall and husband Dwight of Tylerton, and Jennifer Dize of Ewell; eight grandchildren, Craig Evans and wife Laura, Kaitlin Evans, Daric Evans, Julie Evans, Justin Evans, Rochalla Higdon and fiance Bobby Jones, Lauren Lee and husband Bruce, and Ashley Tyler; five great-grandchildren, Lilly and Gabrielle Higdon, Wyatt Jones, Addison Evans, and Mariah and Natalia Lee; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis and Clayton Evans; and a brother-in-law, Billy Dize.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. Everett Landon will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 2 PM at Ewell U. M. Church where a viewing will be held Monday evening from 7-9.  There will also be a viewing Monday morning at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield from 10-11. Interment will be in Ewell Church Cemetery.

A special boat for funeral passengers, "Chelsea Lane", will depart Somers Cove Marina at 12 Noon on Tuesday and return following the services.
