EILEEN MIDDLETON SOMERS, of Crisfield, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at the Riverside Regional Convalescent Center in Newport News, Virginia, after a long illness. She was 89.
Eileen was born on August 5, 1918, to Charlie and Lillian Evans Middleton. She lived most of her life on Smith Island, Maryland with her husband of 62 years, Lorenzo D. "Rooster" Somers, Sr. who preceded her in death on January 5, 2002.
Eileen was always busy; she cut hair for 60 years, made endless jars of pepper relish and preserved figs. She worked with her husband cleaning soft crabs in the summer and finishing the wood furniture he made in the winter. She was involved in the community and never missed an event. She loved to visit friends and family. Ewell United Methodist Church was the center of her life. She sang in the choir for 25 years, taught Sunday School, and was very active in the WSCS.
Eileen leaves to cherish her memory her devoted children and spouses, Elaine and Kerford Brimer of Newport News, Virginia and Maurice and Jayne Somers of Crisfield. She was a loving MomMom to her grandchildren, Charles, Jackie, Lori Ann, Lisa, David, Ritchie, and Andrea; and she adored her nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and their wives, Charles and Ervalee Middleton of Salisbury and Walter and Marlene Middleton of Baltimore; her sister, Martha Beauchamp of Princess Anne; and her former daughter-in-law, Vivian King.
Eileen's heart was broken upon the death of her son, Lorenzo "Woose" Somers, Jr.; her sister, Esther Evans; and her husband, Lorenzo "Rooster" Somers, Sr.
