Obituary

Duane D. Smith, 69, of Marion Station, died Saturday, February 10, 2024 at The Macky & Pam Stansell House Coastal Hospice in Ocean Pines, just a few days shy of his 70th birthday.

Born in Deadwood, South Dakota on February 12, 1954, he was a son of the late Frank D. and Mary Louise Tunnell Smith.  He had been making his home in Marion since 1988 and formerly lived in Waco, TX.

He was a retired Captain in the US Army serving 23 ½ years.  He was a member of the Waco Masonic Lodge #1127 AF & AM and later transferred his membership to Chesapeake Masonic Lodge #147 AF & AM in Crisfield.  He was a member of the former Evangelical Wesleyan Church in Crisfield and most recently attended Crisfield Wesleyan Church.

He enjoyed, carpentry, woodworking, reading, and watching John Wayne films.

He is survived by his wife of almost 24 years, Bonnie Evans Smith; step-daughter, Leah Jerez; step-grandsons, Michael and Joshua Thomas; brother, Monte Smith (Sharman) of Colorado; sisters, Kathy Rasberry of TX, Becky Fuller (Randy) of Georgia, and Donna Cavaness of TX; a special nephew, Eric Evans; and many additional nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Marusak; and his in-laws, Vernon and Frances Evans.

Graveside services and a Masonic Memorial Service with military honors will be Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at 1 PM at Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.  The Rev. Bob Daniels will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Crisfield Wesleyan Church, 3067 Lawsonia Road, Crisfield, MD 21817.
