Pocomoke City

Dorothy Lee Jones, of Pocomoke City and formerly of Crisfield, peacefully passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the loving home of her daughter. She was 93.

Born on April 15, 1933, in Marion Station, Dorothy was the beloved daughter of the late Russell G. Johnson, Jr. and Nellie Nelson Johnson. For fifty years, she shared a devoted partnership with her late husband, Calvin Jones, who preceded her in death in 1996.

A proud graduate of Crisfield High School, Dorothy embraced a strong work ethic throughout her life. Beginning as a clerk at the former McCrory’s and then as a talented seamstress at the Crisfield Cap Factory and His Nibbs. She spent many years alongside her husband, and in 1960, Dorothy and Calvin purchased Jones’ Market and later expanded to a second Jones’ Store. Their entrepreneurial spirit continued with the acquisition of Big Apple Seafood and Produce Market and Corbin Meat Packing Company in Pocomoke City, where they eventually made their home. In later years, Dorothy co-owned D & R Ceramics with her daughter and lovingly supported her grandson on the family poultry farm.

Dorothy was a devoted member of the Crisfield Wesleyan Church, where Pastor Bob Daniels and his wife Janice held a special place in her heart. Her faith and community were sources of strength and comfort throughout her life.

She delighted in painting ceramics, solving puzzles, reading, and had a deep love for all animals. Above all, Dorothy treasured her family time and adored her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Robin Ryan and husband Bill of Crisfield, who lovingly cared for her; her former daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Bozman and husband Jerry of Princess Anne; her siblings, Russell “Junie” Johnson, Jr. and Bonnie Tyler of Crisfield; grandchildren David Hoffman of Pocomoke City, Justin Hoffman and wife Courtney of Pocomoke City, John Calvin Jones and wife Haley of Westover, Tyler Ryan of Pennsylvania, Karen Pelan and husband Bill of Washington State, and Rebekah Palladinos and husband Peter of Colorado; and great-grandchildren Savanna and Samantha Hoffman, Kaylie, Jameson, Wylie, Lindy, and Nola Jones, and Ezra Palladinos, along with many dear nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Calvin; her two sons, Calvin Bruce Jones in 1986 and George Casey Jones in 2020; and siblings Buster Johnson, Betty Tull, Jimmy Johnson, and Jenny Jennings.

A funeral service to honor Dorothy’s remarkable life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11 AM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home, with a viewing from 10-11 AM. Reverend Bob Daniels will officiate, with interment on the family farm.

In remembrance of Dorothy's generous spirit, donations may be made to Crisfield Wesleyan Church, 3067 Lawsonia Road, Crisfield, MD 21817; Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733; or Somerset County Dog Control, 7922 Crisfield Highway, Westover, MD 21871.

Dorothy Lee Jones’ legacy of dedication, love, and warmth will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
