Diana Louise Kirkendall, 85, of Crisfield and formerly of Manassas, Virginia, died Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.
Born in Tuxedo, Maryland on September 3, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Markwood Schley and the late Ethel Mary Chase Samualson. Her husband, Donald George Kirkendall, preceded her in death June 17, 2000.
Mrs. Kirkendall was a PBX Operator for the Joint Chiefs of Staff Office at the Pentagon. Most of her working years were with the US Government Department of the Army as a Civil Service Employee, and later was a receptionist for Long & Foster Realty.
She was an avid bowler and ice skater and had aspirations of becoming a professional ice skater. She also enjoyed crocheting and camping.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Chris Tipton and Deborah Bechtler, and Mary and Steve Locke; granchildren and their spouses, Amy and Jason McMillan and family, Jonathan and Ngoc Locke, and Denise and Mark Halloway and their children, Donald, Mark, Jr., and Matthew Halloway; nieces and nephews, Patty and Mike Huffman and Family, Lynn Brown and Family, Wanda Mills and Family, and Mary and Brian Wery and Family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald G. Kirkendall, Jr.; sister and brother-in-law, M. Jean Brown and Bernard O. "Dickie" Brown, Jr.; and a brother, Vincent M. Schley.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 3-4 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home, 306 W. Main Street, Crisfield, MD 21817. A chapel service and interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery where she will be interred next to her husband.
The family would like to thank the staff at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home for the excellent care Diana received while there. Daughter Chris would also like to thank her Crisfield Food Lion friends for their expressions of sympathy during this difficult time.
