DENNETT LEE "DENNY" BUTLER, 67, of Shelltown, Maryland, died Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland, from complications of MDS.
Born June 17, 1940 in Crisfield, Maryland, he was the son of Gladys Powell Butler of Princess Anne, and the late Earl Butler, who died in 1968.
He was a graduate of Marion High School, class of '58, and the University of Maryland College Park, class of '63. He taught industrial arts and math in Wicomico County until he became Somerset County Administrator. He served as a county commissioner for Somerset County for 16 years and farmed until his death. He managed crop production for Pacific Tomato Growers in Virginia and presently was working for Kuzzens, Inc. of Florida. He was also a member of the Somerset County Board of License Commissions, and the Maryland Electrical Licensing Board.
His memberships included Maryland Farm Bureau, Pocomoke Elks, Marion Lions Club, Marion Volunteer Fire Department, and Marion Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth; two sons, Alan Butler and his wife Patti and Michael Butler and his wife Amy, all of Shelltown; a daughter, Dr. Melinda Butler and her husband Dr. Timothy Sneizek of Preston, Maryland; four grandchildren, Adrianna, Gabrielle, and Madelin Sneizek, of Preston and Megan Butler of Shelltown; a step-granddaughter, Shaunnessey Anderson of Shelltown; an uncle, Carroll Adams of Marion Station; and several cousins.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where a viewing will be held Tuesday evening form 7-9 and one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Harvey Tyler will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery in Marion Station.
