David M. Mekovsky, 56, of Crisfield and formerly of Pittsburgh, died Friday, December 23, 2022 at TidalHealth McCready Pavilion.

Born in Pittsburgh on April 13, 1966, he was a son of the late Frank and Edrie Appel Mekovsky.

He obtained his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from UMASS Lowell and following his move to Crisfield landed his dream job at NASA Wallops. First with Northrop Grumman working on the Antares rocket and most recently with Peraton launching sounding rockets.

He had been making his home in Crisfield since 2019 and he loved being on the water crabbing and fishing.  He was also an avid Steelers and Penguins fan and was active in the Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044 where he was a trustee and affectionately known as "Rocket Man".

He is survived by his wife of almost 27 years, Janice Perry Mekovsky of Crisfield; his son, Alex Mekovsky of Crisfield; two sisters, Jennifer Mekovsky and Lisa Mekovsky, both of Pittsburgh; a nephew, Christian Trottier of Pittsburgh; and aunt, Ruth Appel of Pittsboro, North Carolina; and many cousins and extended family in Pittsburgh.

A "Going Away Party" will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 4 PM at the Crisfield Elks Lodge with refreshments and music to follow.  Casual attire is welcomed, and feel free to wear black and gold if you are a Steelers or Penguins fan.
