Daniel Roche O'Connor, Jr., 88, of Crisfield, died Saturday, November 12, 2022 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury.
Born in Detroit, Michigan on February 27, 1934, he was the son of the late Daniel R. O'Connor and Harriette Mandana Oberdorf O'Connor. His wife, Grace Marie D'Argenio O'Connor, preceded him in death December 23, 2015.
Mr. O'Connor was a US Navy veteran serving from 1952-1956 and was honorably discharged in 1960 after serving an additional four years in the reserves.
Following his military service, Dan went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1959, and a Master of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1962. He worked for the US Government as an analyst for 29 years, retiring in 1994.
His memberships include St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Westover and Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Pocomoke City, and had life memberships with Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #16, former VFW Post #8274, and Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044. He was a proud member of AA having celebrated over 32 years of sobriety. He loved traveling and visited every state in the US and numerous places around the world. Dan was always generous with his time and resources for family and friends, volunteering, mentoring, supporting charities, and sponsoring children around the world for many years. He lived a faith filled life with enthusiasm and gratitude. He truly lived life to its fullest, making many friends along the way. He will be missed.
He is survived by three children, Meghan Walsh and husband Dan of Granger, Indiana, Daniel R. O'Connor, III and wife Jessica of Granger, Indiana, and Noreen O'Connor of Prescott Valley, Arizona; six grandchildren, Connor Jeremiah Walsh and wife Laura Hammdorff of Westminster, Colorado, Ryan Daniel Walsh of Washington, D.C., Daniel Roche O'Connor, IV and wife Samantha of Fishers, Indiana, Patrick Oliver O'Connor of Haddon Township, New Jersey, Meredith Brenna O'Connor of Granger, Indiana, and Cullen West Coldiron of Prescott Valley, Arizona.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Brenna O'Connor on September 18, 1964.
A Funeral Mass with military honors will be Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 11 AM at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Westover. Father Dan Staniskis will officiate.
Urn interment will be at a later date in Baltimore National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church.
