DANIEL WILSON HARRISON, SR., 93, of Ewell, Smith Island, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield where he had been a resident for several years.
Born on Smith Island April 16, 1913, he was a son of the late Tankard Edward and Eva Maxine Evans Harrison. His wife, Dorothy A. Harrison died August 14, 1996.
A life-long waterman, and the youngest captain on the bay when he started, Mr. Harrison worked until he was 82 years of age. He was the former captain of the Ruby G. Ford, the last Skipjack on the island. He was also inducted into the Watermen's Hall of Fame in Crisfield.
He was a faithful member of the Ewell United Methodist Church on Smith Island, and was a life member of the Chesapeake Masonic Lodge #147 AF & AM in Crisfield.
He is survived by two sons, Michael K. Harrison, Sr. and his wife Yvonne of Smith Island and Daniel W. Harrison, Jr. and his wife Dollie Ann of Crisfield; one sister, Lillian Evans and her husband Elmer L. of Ewell, Smith Island; ten grandchildren, Michael K. Harrison, Jr., John Harrison, Paul Harrison, Leah Evans and her husband Darren, Daren Harrison and his wife Vicki, Denise Thomas and her husband Steven, Kelly Wheatley and her husband Paul, Danielle Crockett and her husband Denny, Amanda Parks and her husband Bruce, and Jason Charnock and his wife Loni Renee; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Henrietta Charnock in 2005; and his brother, Edward Harrison, and a sister, Elizabeth Marshall.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the Ewell United Methodist Church. The Rev. Rick Edmund will officiate and will be assisted by the Rev. Ashley Maxwell. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Bradshaw & Sons Funeral home Saturday from 10 to 11 A.M. and at the church after 7 P.M.
