Obituary

Clyde Wesley "Wes" Bradshaw, 80, of Ewell, Smith Island, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at his home.

Born October 17, 1944 and raised on Tylerton, Smith Island, he was a son of the late Clyde and Bertha Evans Bradshaw.  His wife of 57 years, Helen "Faye" Bradshaw, preceded him in death just three months ago on June 2, 2025.

Capt. Wes was a retired waterman and boat captain working for the MD Pilots Association of Solomons, MD and most recently for the Save the Bay Foundation on Tylerton.  He was also 1st mate on a tugboat for a period of time.  He truly loved being on his boat and being a boat captain.

Active in his community, he was a member of Ewell United Church, Ewell Volunteer Fire Department, and was a Board Member of the Smith Island Cultural Center.  He loved to cook, build model boats and Skipjacks in his earlier years, and enjoyed chauffeuring all the ladies around on the mainland for shopping and dining outings.  Above all, he loved spending time with his family and doting on his grandson.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Donnie B. Marsh of Rhodes Point; his grandson, Donald "Peyton" Marsh of Rhodes Point; his sister-in-law, Hester Smith of Tylerton; nieces and nephews, Linda Evans, Wayne Evans (Brigid), Denny Bradshaw, Joan Corbin (Eddie), Gloria Herbert, Don Bradshaw, Danny Hill, Nancy Martin (Charles), Alan L. Smith, Jr. (Dana), and Jennings L. Evans, Jr.; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shelby Faye Marsh in 2020; his siblings and their spouses, Milford and Priscilla Bradshaw, Julian and Norma Bradshaw, Merrill Bradshaw, and Gloria and Wayne Evans; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Edwina and Jennings Evans and Alan Smith; and nieces and nephews, Ellen Evans, Benji Evans, Marsha Tyler, Jukie Bradshaw, and Eddie Russ Smith.

Funeral services officiated by the Reverends Orlando Short and Jim Evans will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 2 PM at the Ewell Recreation Center on Smith Island.  A viewing will be Monday evening from 7-9 PM at the Ewell Recreation Center.  Interment will be in Ewell Church Cemetery.

A special boat for funeral passengers, Chelsea Lane, will depart the Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield at 12 PM and return following the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ewell United Church or Ewell Vol. Fire Dept., both Ewell, MD 21824.
