CLYDE W. SHAFER, 75, of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Crisfield, died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in Baltimore, September 27, 1935, he was a son of the late Warren and Mary Jane Owings Schafer.

A graduate of the University of Maryland College Park, he was a retired material supervisor, working 30 years at General Motors.

He was active in the Harbor Heights Community Association in Florida, and prior, was active in the Cape Windsor Community Association in Delaware.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary L. Singley Schafer, of Florida and Crisfield; three children, Timothy Schafer of Pasadena, MD, Kathleen Judd and her husband David of Front Royal, VA, and Lisa Cordova and her husband Hugo of Lake Ridge, VA; seven grandchildren, Samantha Statkiewicz and her husband Tim, Sydney Schafer, Mandee Wheelock and her husband Dustin, Lacey Marut and her husband Stephen, Seve Cordova, Tony Cordova, and Alec Cordova; two great-grandchildren, Tristin Statkiewicz and Miyhi Wheelock; a sister, Suzanna LaFever of St. Louis; two brothers, Robert Schafer of Baldwin, MD and George Schafer of Annandale, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Clyde Schafer, III in 1977.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 11 AM at New Hope Church in Front Royal, Virginia. Pastor Stephen Marut will officiate.
