Clifton A. Benton, 76, of Princess Anne and formerly of Wenona, died Friday, August 11, 2023 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.

Born April 2, 1947 in Salisbury and raised in Wenona, he was a son of the late Norman and Gloria Tawes Benton.

He was a lifelong waterman and Captain of the former Skipjack "Susan May".  He enjoyed fishing and playing baseball in his younger years and he loved his furbabies "Smokey" and "Gimbli".  He attended Rock Creek Methodist Church in Chance, MD.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Benton of Princess Anne; a son, Arthur Benton and wife April of Chance; a daughter, Angela McCoy of Dames Quarter; a step-son, Sean Webster of Princess Anne; a brother, Delmas Benton and wife Vickie of Dames Quarter; two sisters, Bonnie Muir and husband Mike of Laurel, DE and Donna White of Chance; a very special grandson, Dr. Sean-Luke Webster of Princess Anne; grandchildren, Chelsea, Nick and Lauren; an aunt, Kay Daniels of Wenona; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walton Benton.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 14, 2023 at 2 PM at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Wenona where a viewing will be one hour prior.  Pastor David Webster will officiate the service and will be assisted by Retired Rev. Linwood "Sonny" Benton.  Interment will follow in St. Paul's Church Cemetery.
