CHARLIE BRANFORD EVANS, 67, of Ewell, Smith Island, died Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in Baltimore on October 7, 1943, he was the son of the late Leroy and Gertrude Brimer Evans. He was raised on Smith Island, and was a 1962 graduate of Crisfield High School.

He was the owner of the former Leroy Evans & Son General Store on Smith Island, retiring in 1997.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Alice Smith Evans of Ewell; a daughter, Charli D. Evans of Crisfield; two sisters, Arbutus Marsh of Rhodes Point and Vanessa Smith of Ewell; and niece and nephews, Allison Marsh and Steven Smith of Crisfield, Donnie Marsh of Rhodes Point, and Matt Smith of Princess Anne.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 2 PM at Ewell United Methodist Church on Smith Island. The Rev. Rick Edmund will officiate.
