Obituary

Charles Hall Simpson, 78, of Crisfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2014 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.

He was born August 31, 1936 to Benjamin Mitchell Simpson II and Marshall Hall Simpson of Miquon, PA. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Earlene "Early" Sulin Simpson, who died October 6, 2013.

He is survived by his brother, Benjamin Mitchell Simpson III and his wife Wilma Simpson; a son, Benjamin Mitchell Simpson IV and his wife Patricia Wick Simpson; and a daughter, Mary Simpson Dey and her husband Armistead Wheeler Dey, Jr. He is also survived by his four devoted grandchildren, Armistead Wheeler Dey III, Charles Kensett Dey, Grace Carlin Simpson, and Benjamin Mitchell Simpson V.

Charley (or Charley #2 as he was known to his grandson, Charley #1) met Early at Washington College in Chestertown, MD, where he earned his Bachelor's degree. He then discovered his love of teaching and went on to earn his Masters from Temple University and then his Ed.D from Rutgers University. He retired from the Maple Shade School Division (New Jersey) in 1996 after over 30 years as an elementary school principal. They retired to Crisfield, MD because their love of boating and the Bay, and many a fun night was had on I Pier. He was an avid photographer and a lover of good conversation – to the point that he would choose to take the opposing view, if for no other reason than to liven up a conversation. Mom may have been the Pilot, but Dad was always the Navigator. He will truly be missed.

The memorial service officiated by Rev. Paul Holland will be Saturday, Sept 20, 2014 at 11am at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home, Crisfield, MD followed by a reception for family and friends at the house.
