Charles James Payne, 88, of Salisbury and formerly of Crisfield, went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Salisbury Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Charles and his wife, Suzanne were currently living on Troopers Way in Salisbury.

Born in Crisfield on May 25, 1935, he was the son of the late Charles Littleton Payne and Teresa Alberta Payne of Crisfield. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles James Payne, Jr. His is survived by his wife, the former Suzanne Daugherty Payne, and they celebrated 68 wonderful years together on August 30, 2023.

Chick, as he was nicknamed, was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He worked as a Maintenance Mechanic for the former Dresser Industries for 37 years.

He was a devoted member of the Crisfield Church of God since 1965 and served 36 years as the Sanctuary Sunday School Class teacher.  More recently he attended Victory Tabernacle Church of God in Laurel, DE.

Along with his wife, Suzanne, he was survived by two sons, Russell Warren Payne and his wife Julie and Ronnie Lee Payne and his wife Melodye; two daughters, Debra Sue Lowe and her husband Chris and Tresa Lynn Parker; one grandson, Ronnie Lee Payne, Jr.; three granddaughters, Crystal Payne, Christina Lowe, and Tabatha Payne; and five great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and son, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Payne, a sister, Dawn Laird; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Parker.

Funeral Services will be held at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 1 PM with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Bishop Harvey Tyler and Pastor Stacey Johnson will officiate. Burial with Navy Military Honors will follow at Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
