CHARLES SIDNEY McCREADY, 62, of Tangier Island, Virginia, died Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at his home of natural causes.

Born on Tangier Island on May 12, 1945, he was a son of the late Charles Fletcher and Lucy Ellen Crockett McCready.

He was a deliveryman for the Tangier Oil Company, and prior, worked at Phillip Morris and Dupont while he was a resident of Richmond for 12 years.

A member of the Swain Memorial United Methodist Church on Tangier, Tangier Fire Department, VFW, and AARP, he was also a United States Army Vietnam War Veteran. He received several medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He is survived by his brother, Jackie H. McCready and wife Marlene of Tangier; his sister, Nancy Parks and husband Charles "Sonny" of Tangier; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nellie Landon.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 7, 2007 at 2 PM at Swain Memorial United Methodist Church on Tangier where friends may call Thursday evening from 7-9 PM. Rev. John Jones and Rev. Darren Landon will officiate the service. Soloists will be Frank "Hoot" Pruitt and Jean Crockett and the organist will be Nancy Creedle. Pallbearers will be Mark Crockett, Denny Crockett, Teddy Marshall, Justin Landon, Terry Daley and David Pruitt. Interment will be in New Testament Cemetery.
