Carolyn Gunter, 90, of Crisfield, died Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.
Born in Crisfield March 23, 1923, she was a daughter of the late William C. and Helen Daugherty Landon. Her husband of 55 years, Alphia K. "Al" Gunter, preceded her in death September 14, 2001.
A 1940 graduate of Crisfield High School, Carolyn was co-owner of Gunter Brothers Hardware and Appliances. During World War II, she was a telephone operator for C & P Telephone. She was a member of Mariners United Methodist Church.
Carolyn was an avid Baltimore Orioles and University of MD Basketball fan. She was known all over for her homemade chocolate chip cookies and chocolate peanut butter ice cream. Carolyn enjoyed traveling with Neva Rae Howard and Helen "Boops" Saltz; they were known as the "Golden Girls" on their trips to Florida. She was also proud of traveling to Honduras on a missions trip with Hands In Ministry at the age of 80.
Carolyn is survived by two sons, Robert A. "Rob" Gunter and his friend Tara Jones of Crisfield, and her children Philip and Bailee Jones, all of Crisfield and Richard C. "Rick" Gunter and his wife Gina of Salisbury; five grandchildren, Robbie Gunter, Jr. and his wife Angela of Crisfield, Lindsey Gunter and her fiancé Logan Crockett of Marion, Rick Gunter, Jr. and his wife Karen of Salisbury, Ashley Gunter of Salisbury, and Anna Gunter of Santa Fe, New Mexico; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Kate Gunter; and her special nieces and nephew, Neva Rae Howard and Carol Webster of Marion and Howard Ward of Crisfield.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Landon and Loren Sterling; and two sisters, Fannie Ward and Ida Czarnecki.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 7, 2014 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. Pastors John Kalfayan and Todd Hurley will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
