Carlton Lloyd Hurley, 82, of Crisfield and formerly of Chincoteague, VA, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.
Born in Franklin City, VA on March 20, 1935 he was the son of the late Walter F. and Alice Mae Adkins Hurley. His wife, Jeanette Bowden Hurley preceded him in death in 1990.
He was a career US Navy Veteran who served two tours in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. After being honorably discharged from the military, he worked as a Security Guard at "Trails End" in Chincoteague, where he later retired. He was a former member of the Chincoteague American Legion and enjoyed attending the Shady Pines Adult Day Care in Salisbury. He was always a happy man who loved his life and family.
He is survived by a son, Steven W. Hurley and wife Teresa of Ogden,UT; sister, Vivian C. Bradshaw and husband Jim of Crisfield; a grandson, Michael S. Hurley of North Plains, OR, brother-in-law, Ronnie Payne and wife Dot of Pocomoke; nieces, Melanie Bloodsworth and fiancé Rob Shore of Marion, Patricia Lankford Joyner and fiancé Jason Byrd of Crisfield, April Porter and husband Chris of Pocomoke, Joy Payne-Adkins and husband Bobby of Westover; great-nieces and nephews, Jennifer Howard and husband Adam of Pocomoke, Justin Porter of Washington, DC, Brett Bloodsworth ,Dustin Joyner and wife Brandi all of Crisfield and Alexys Shore of Marion; Shelby Collins and Daniel Collins both of Pocomoke; great-great niece, Maya Lynn Joyner; and great-great nephew, Braydon Howard.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph A. Hurley who passed on December 24, 1979; sister, Rosemary Payne; great-niece, Andrea N. Joyner; great-great niece and nephew, Laya M. Joyner and Braydon J. Joyner.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home where friends may call from 11 AM-12 Noon. Interment at a later date will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Crisfield Wesleyan Church, 3068 Lawsonia Road, Crisfield, MD 21817, or to Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 203 Hall Highway, Crisfield, MD 21817.
