Brenda Ward Rooks, 83 of Bear, DE passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by Larry Rooks, her husband of 42 years, sisters Jackie Lawson and Jeannie Crockett, both of Crisfield, MD, brother Paul Ward (and wife Jeannie) of Crisfield, MD, son Rick Schultz (and wife Rose) of Bear, DE, son Brent Linton (and wife Michella) of Dagsboro, DE, daughter Traci Rooks (and husband Brian) of Middletown, DE, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie "Snookie" Ward, father, Paul Ward Sr, and son Greg Schultz.
A retired Inspector at Dupont, Brenda spent her post-retirement days with her beloved Peaches, dogs Bubba and Beau, caring for her plants and gardens. Her primary focus was her family. As the matriarch, she provided an abundance of love, support, and guidance. She was a master "chef" of down-home, southern cuisine. She loved cooking and entertaining. Whether it be family, friends, or the occasional visitor, no one was considered a stranger at "Mom Mom's house" where you were sure to never leave on an empty stomach. She loved spending her days sitting on her back deck interacting with the birds, throwing frisbees for her dogs, admiring her many gardens, and enjoying nature.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at the Atterbury VFW (Post 3420) where she was an auxiliary member who enjoyed participating in shuffleboard tournaments and spending time with friends. Reception time will be from 3-7 PM.
An excerpt of a poem she wrote that is fitting:
The emotion I feel, when I have to depart
Brings tears to my eyes,
An ache to my heart ...
Until next time when I see you again
