ELIZABETH J. "BETTY JO" WARD, 82, of Salisbury, died Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Manokin Manor Nursing Home in Princess Anne.
Born in Chestertown on June 19, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Elizabeth Reed Woodland. Her husband, John Philip Ward, died January 31, 2003.
Betty Jo grew up in Marion Station and graduated from the former Marion High School. A homemaker, her first love was her children and her family, and her second love was the history and genealogy of her family. After much research, she was able to trace an ancestor, Ephraim Sterling, who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Subsequently after this finding, she became a member of the Nanticoke Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by two children, John David Ward of Eden and Ellen Ward Kauffman of Bear, Delaware; three grandchildren, Robin Carmel Kondzielawa of Bear, John Michael Ward of Eden and Hannah Kathryn Ward of Eden; one great-grandson, Philip Richard Ward of Bear; one brother, Rev. James Woodland of Portsmouth, Virginia; her son-in-law, Dick Kauffman; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. Her brother, the Rev. James Woodland, will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.
