Betty Rae Tyler, 68, of Ewell, Smith Island, died Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Crisfield on April 12, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Clara Bruce Smith.
She was a homemaker and a member of Ewell United Methodist Church. She was active in the Ewell School PTA and Ladies Aide.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gladston Lawson Tyler, Sr. of Ewell; two children, Gladston L. Tyler, Jr. and wife Betty Jo of Ewell and Annette Asanovich and husband Joe of Shelltown; a brother, Alan Smith and wife Hester of Tylerton, Smith Island; four grandchildren, Chelsea Tyler, Tyler Tyler, Joseph Asanovich, III, and Kerri Asanovich; and her several nieces and nephews, Vince Marshall of Manassas, VA, Katie Schoffstall and husband Kenny of Crisfield, Dicky Marshall and wife Becky of Fruitland, Vivian King and husband Bruce of Yorktown, VA, Alan Smith, Jr. of Tylerton, Eddie Russ Smith and wife Betty of Tylerton, and Denise Norris of Seaford, DE.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Erma Marshall and Barbara Wells.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Coastal Hospice at the Lake for their kindness and for the wonderful care Betty received.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 16, 2013 at 2 PM at Ewell U. M. Church where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Rev. Rick Edmund and Dave Duitscher will officiate. Interment will follow in Ewell Church Cemetery. Funeral passengers should take the Capt. Jason which will depart the County Dock in Crisfield at 12:30.
