ATTIE NEWBY CHAPPELL PRICE, 96, of Crisfield and formerly of Belvidere, NC, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011 at McCready Memorial Hospital.
Born in Hertford, NC on September 19, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Edward L. and Mary E. Lane Chappell. Her husband, Delphin Delmas Price, died in 1987. She had been making her home here since 1938.
A homemaker, Attie did substitute teaching for several years and had a Kindergarten class at home before it was offered in public schools. She was also active in the Shore Up! Foster Grandparent Program for 10 years and formerly worked at the former Halterman's Department Store.
She was a member of Somerset Free Methodist Church in Crisfield where she taught Sunday School for more than 30 years, and prior, taught Sunday School at Mt. Pleasant U. M. Church.
She is survived by two sons, Delmas Ray Price and his wife JoAnn of Orange Park, Florida and Edward Chappell "Chappy" Price and his wife Sharon of Crisfield; a son-in-law, Everett Taylor of Westover; five grandchildren, Aaron Price and Celeste Price of Orange Park, Jamie Taylor of Westover, Tracey Ackenbrack of Salisbury, and Brian Price of Columbia, MD; four great-grandchildren, Morgan Steward and Gracie Ackenbrack of Salisbury, and Isabella Laffy and Logan Laffy of Orange Park; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Joyce Elaine Price in 1942, and Lois Jean Taylor in 2008; five sisters, Mary White, Grace Ward, Sara Bradford, Erma Chappell and Myra Chappell; and four brothers, Edward Chappell, Ray Chappell, Hemby Chappell and Howard Chappell.
Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Robert Daniels, will be held Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
