Obituary

Anna Bell Hatchell, 75, of Shelltown, died Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury.

Born in Crisfield May 23, 1947 and raised in the Shelltown area of Marion Station, she was the daughter of the late Harold R. Bell, Sr. and Martha Elizabeth Horstman Bell.

She graduated valedictorian of the Marion High School class of 1965 and went on to Salisbury University where she obtained her teaching degree.  She was a school teacher in Somerset County for many years and later was an addictions counselor at the Worcester County Health Department.  She had a combined total of more than 40 years of service with the State of Maryland.  She was a member of Rehobeth Methodist Church since she was a teenager.

Anna loved animals, spending time with her husband and family, and in her younger years she enjoyed playing sports.  In high school she played field hockey, basketball and softball, and later was in a bowling league.  She also enjoyed fishing.

She is survived by her husband, Archie Hatchell; step-daughter, Christina Hatchell; brother, Reggie Bell and his wife Jan; niece, Leighann Bell-Presley and her husband Danny and family; sisters-in-law, Barbara Crow, Patty Mayle, Louise Hatchell Mayle, and Margie Brewster; and her doggie fur baby, "Lady Bug".

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Stacy Schott in 2014; and a nephew, Reggie Bell, III in 2021.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 3 PM at Rehobeth Methodist Church.
