ALVIN L. STANT, 91, of Crisfield, died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.
Born in Sanford, Virginia, he was the son of the late Ernest G. and Annie Briddell Stant.
A member of the Crisfield Church of God, Mr. Stant operated a trucking business before he retired and bought and sold produce up and down the eastern coast. In his younger years, he made trips across the country.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan Phoebus of Crisfield and Doris Justice and husband, Billy, of Annapolis; four grandchildren, John Phoebus of Crisfield, Beth Tribull and husband, Ed, of Annapolis, Wendy Bankert and husband, Randy, of Gettysburg, and Michael Justice and wife, Jenna, of Baltimore; and seven great-grandchildren.
His second wife, Ruth Morris Cecil Stant, resides in Cleveland, Tennessee with her daughter.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Winnie Bell Turpin, who died in 1985; a son, Alvin L. Stant, Jr.; and a sister, Grace Long Pusey.
A funeral service will be held Monday, February 16, 2009 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. The Rev. LeBron Palmer will officiate. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.
