Obituary

ALLEN D. MATTHEWS, 76, of Marion Station, died Sunday, July 8, 2007 at Manokin Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Princess Anne.

Born in Marion Station on June 26, 1931, he was a son of the late Clarence Benjamin and Eva Mae Nelson Matthews. He had been a resident of Marion Station most of his life, but also lived in Okanagan, Washington for eight years.

He was a machinist for the former Dresser Industries in Salisbury, retiring after 31 years. He was also a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War.

He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post #8274 in Crisfield and also held memberships with the Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion and the Elks Lodge #1044, both in Crisfield, and the Moose Lodge in Westover. He enjoyed writing, especially Letters to the Editor, and was a history buff. According to his family, he knew something about everything.

He is survived by three children, Robin Myers of Florida, Valerie Fisher of Washington State, and George Myers of Washington State; three brothers, Clarence B. Matthews, Jr. and his wife Jean of Upper Marlboro, Louis Nelson Matthews and his wife Eleanor of Marion Station and John Franklin Matthews and his wife Joyce of Tyaskin; one sister, Carolyn Mae Mahnkey of Tyaskin; a sister-in-law, Ann Matthews of Chicago; six grandchildren, John, Jeffrey and Jason Fisher, Andrew Rosenthal and Lauren and Melinda Myers; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Thomas Matthews; and a brother-in-law, Douglas Mahnkey.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 12, 2007 at 1 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior to the services. The Rev. Bob Daniels will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery in Marion Station.
