Allen Foster "Buck" Matthews, 98, of Kingston, died Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.

Born in Salisbury on June 29, 1923, he grew up in Kingston and was the son of the late Foster and Bessie Matthews.  His wife, Carolyn Ruth Meise Matthews, preceded him in death on August 15, 1999.

Mr. Matthews was the owner and operator of Matthews Lumber and Canning Company in Kingston with his brothers, Stanley and Roland, and was plant manager at Six L's Packing Company in Kingston.  He also was a school bus driver for many years for Somerset County Public Schools.

A US Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044.  He was appointed to the Somerset County Democratic State Central Committee, and the Somerset County Liquor Board.

Buck's life was his family and friends. A loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by his daughters, Linda Marsh and her husband Sam, and Sue Rogers and her partner David; four grandchildren, Richard Ward and his wife Jessica, Jeremy Ward and his wife Colby, Emery Rogers and her husband Matt, and Caroline Rogers; and seven great-grandchildren.  He was the last surviving of his brothers and sisters.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. Tommy Maddox and Rev. Bob Daniels will be Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 12 pm at Rehobeth Baptist Church.  A visitation will be from 11-12.  Interment will follow in the Rehobeth Baptist Church Cemetery.
