Alice Smith Evans, 77, beloved mother and school teacher of Crisfield and formerly of Smith Island, died Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake.  She had been making her home in Crisfield with her daughter for the past ten years.

Born and raised on Smith Island, she was a daughter of the late Harold Smith and the late Iris Leaha Brimer Evans.  Her husband of 47 years, Charlie B. Evans, preceded her in death April 3, 2011.

Mrs. Evans obtained her bachelors and masters degrees in elementary education from Salisbury University. She was a school teacher for 37 years for the Somerset County Public School System working at both Tylerton School and Ewell School on Smith Island retiring in 2007.

She was a member of Ewell United Methodist Church and the Ewell Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.  She loved teaching, and spending time and traveling with her school staff family.  She also had a great love for animals.

She is survived by her daughter, Charli D. Evans of Crisfield; her sisters and brother, Kathy Sheppard and husband Nelson and Ruth Ann Landon and husband Chris, all of Crisfield and Clarence "Bussie" Smith and wife Stephanie of Solomon's Island; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her step-father, William Kenneth "Ken" Evans.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
